Dr. Susan Gold received her Ed. D. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Miami in 1986. Prior to graduate school, she had been a first grade teacher in the public school system, a preschool teacher and a college teacher. She has had an on-going interest in quality in early care and education, early literacy, and inclusion.

Following her graduation, she spent two years as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Mailman Center for Child Development. She has been a member of the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics since 1988. Dr. Gold's has focused on working with Miami-Dade County Head Start. She supervises a staff of 28, including graduate and undergraduate students. They provide psycho-education evaluations for those Head Start children suspected of having disabilities, train Head Start teachers, work with Head Start parents, and provide intervention services, mostly language stimulation, for children at-risk of speech/language disorders.

Her previous research includes developing a model demonstration project for early care and education providers focusing on training and mentoring.

Dr. Gold chairs the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee at the Mailman Center. The committee, consisting of 15 members from across disciplines, examines legislative initiatives as they pertain to children and provide expert testimony when asked.

Dr. Gold presently serves the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Children's Forum.
