Paul R. DeMuro, CPA, MBA, JD, PhD, is Voluntary Associate Professor of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.  Previously, he was a National Library of Medicine post-doctoral fellow at the Oregon Health Science University School of Medicine, Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology, where his research efforts focused on the use of informatics technologies to increase quality and reduce costs, specifically in the area of e-prescribing.  Dr. DeMuro also is Of Counsel to the law firm of Broad and Cassel.   He was previously a partner at several prominent law firms, including Latham & Watkins.  His research efforts focus on payment for quality and cost-effectiveness, health information technologies, mHealth, social media and telemedicine.  Driving Dr. DeMuro's research and practice is his passion for the cost-effective delivery of quality health care for all and the elimination of health disparities.  He has practiced extensively in the areas of corporate transactions, accountable care, value-based purchasing, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions. He serves as Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee of the American Medical Informatics Association, is a member of its Ethical, Legal & Social Issues Working Group, and a former member of the student editorial board of the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association.  He is former Chair of the American Bar Association Health Law Section and the Joint Committee of Employee Benefits.  He is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the American Academy of Medical Practice Executives, and the American Bar Foundation.
