Video Introduction

Research Interests

Instrumentation and quantitative imaging technologies for diagnostic and surgical applications in all fields of ophthalmology including corneal, cataract, glaucoma, pediatric and retinal diseases.

Research Summary

Dr. Ruggeri’s research at the Ophthalmic Biophysics Center (OBC) includes the development of new ophthalmic imaging technologies, particularly based on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), for in vivo imaging and biometry of the whole human eye and for supporting corneal and retinal surgery and diagnosis of retinal diseases in pediatric population. Dr. Ruggeri work closely with clinicians to develop imaging technology and applications that can have a direct impact on patient eye car

Dr. Ruggeri, currently a research assistant professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, has been an active member of the ophthalmology department since 2005, when he joined the Quantitative Ophthalmic Imaging Group as a research associate. In 2008, Dr. Ruggeri became a member of the Ophthalmic Biophysics Center (OBC) and he enrolled in the Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. program at University of Miami early in 2009. Dr. Ruggeri graduated in December 2011 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the OBC in July 2013 when he was offered a faculty appointment. Dr. Ruggeri’s general area of research is in the field of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and its application to ophthalmology. He is an expert in the field of OCT and developed several innovative new technologies for retinal and anterior segment imaging.
