Dr. Nicolas Cuttriss is Voluntary Assistant Professor of the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.  Clinically trained as a pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Cuttriss’ research and teaching interests center around improving the quality of life of people living with diabetes and establishing systems to ensure this change.  Dr. Cuttriss is Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of AYUDA (American Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad), a non-profit organization that recruits students from high school up to graduate programs for volunteer work in partnership with local organizations to support and enhance diabetes educational programs in underserved communities.  Dr. Cuttriss developed and refined an innovative peer-based service delivery model for training, placing, and supervising students volunteering abroad with diabetes organizations.  The model has demonstrated improvements in health outcomes and has trained and placed over 550 students to support diabetes projects in Bermuda, Bolivia, Belize, Chile, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. Dr. Cuttriss has published peer-reviewed articles and authored peer-reviewed books that were disseminated by WHO/PAHO. Dr. Cuttriss serves on boards and committees of community-empowering organizations and collaborates with organizations and institutions on international, national, and local levels. Dr. Cuttriss is a double boarded certified pediatrician and pediatric endocrinologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Cuttriss also has a faculty appointment at the University of New Mexico in the Department of Pediatrics where he is a clinical instructor and serves as pediatric endocrinologist for the underserved population. In addition, Dr. Cuttriss founded and practices at ENDO Diabetes & Wellness to provide a more practical and efficient model of delivery of care and empowerment to children and their families who are dealing with chronic pediatric endocrine conditions. Recognized repeatedly for his leadership and commitment to social change, Dr. Cuttriss is honored to have initially received support from Ashoka’s Youth Venture and is committed to solving complex large-scale social problems.  To accomplish this, Dr. Cuttriss is dedicated to training the next generation of leaders and global citizens.
